B Company, 2/24th - some of the defenders of Rorke’s Drift, photographed at Pinetown, Natal, in September 1879 before the battalion left southern Africa after the Zulu campaign. A number of those in the company who had distinguished themselves and were wounded had been invalided home before this photo was taken; however, Col. Sgt. Frank Bourne is on the far left, while Gonville Bromhead is on the left of the front row, looking left.
